Young people have the opportunity to become active citizens of the EU

On November 26, 2018, at the session of the Council for Education, Youth, Culture and Sports of the European Union, the EU Youth Strategy for the period 2019-2027 was adopted. This document aims to establish a framework for the implementation of various policies at the level of the European Union, which contribute to better living conditions for young people and open up greater opportunities for young people throughout the EU and neighboring countries. This document aims to give young people the opportunity to become active citizens of the European Union, and to contribute to the eradication of poverty and discrimination among young people. The strategy also defines general goals, i.e. the youth's vision for improving the situation in this sector, which is the product of the Structured Dialogue with the Youth held in the period 2017-2018. These goals reflect the views of young people from all over Europe:

  • Connecting the European Union with young people;
  • Equality of all genders;
  • Enable and ensure the inclusion of all young people in society;
  • Ensure that young people have better access to information, and support their ability to critically evaluate information;
  • Increase the level of mental well-being and stop stigmatization related to mental health problems, and thus promote the social inclusion of all young people;
  • Provide incentives to young people from rural areas;
  • Ensure an accessible labor market with opportunities that lead to better quality jobs for all young people;
  • Integrate and improve different forms of learning;
  • Strengthen the democratic participation and autonomy of young people and ensure space for young people in all domains of society;
  • To build a society in which all young people are actively involved, educated and capable of contributing to environmental protection
  • Ensure equal access to youth organizations and European youth programs for all young people

The EU Youth Strategy should contribute to the realization of these goals of young people through the mobilization of policy instruments at the EU level, as well as actions at the national, regional and local levels by all interested parties.
