Held round table "Demographic trends and socio-economic challenges - what and how next?" - EISE project

Dialogue between institutions, the academic and business community on the key structural problems of the community is the only and adequate way to recognize challenges, create a social agreement and take actions to overcome problems with the aim of creating a sustainable community.

The Union of Employers of Republika Srpska, in cooperation with eminent authors, has prepared document "Influence of demographic trends on economic growth and sustainability of the social protection system", which was presented at the round table. The authors of the document are prof. Nikolina Mlinarević, Ph.D., Saša Stevanović, Ph.D., prof. Dr. Stevo Pucar, Dr. Faruk Hadžić and others. prof. Dr. Maja Savić-Bojanić. Respected authors pointed to the following findings:

• Demographic changes, which include a shrinking workforce and an aging population, pose a significant challenge to economic growth and development, implying the necessity of redefining economic strategies and policies, as well as the implementation of adequate measures in the area of fiscal policy; • The questionability of the continued functioning of the principle of intergenerational solidarity (Bismarck's model), loss of young people's interest in financing the pension system and the growth of the informal economy; • Necessity fairer distribution - redistribution in the community (equality in access to the valorization of natural resources, the most productive earn the most, intergenerational distribution in favor of the young); • Required simplify and digitize procedures inclusion of as many workers as possible in the labor market of all age categories; • Consolidation of employment support programs and targeting sectors that generate new value and only for workplaces where higher productivity and higher wages are achieved; • Nthe need to speed up and simplify the procedure for hiring foreigners; • Flexibilization of labor legislation with the aim of providing a simplified procedure for work engagement, etc.

The event was organized within the project "Contribution of civil society organizations to improving the impact of entrepreneurship on the socio-economic development of BiH - EISE" financed by the European Union, and implemented by the Union of Employers of the Republic of Srpska
